Sumarroca renews the BIOSPHERE sustainability certification for another year
This certification, awarded by the Responsible Tourism Institute, recognizes the international commitment to sustainability in accordance with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Subirats, March 6, 2025 – Bodegues Sumarroca has renewed the Biosphere certification for 2025, reaffirming its strong commitment to sustainability through an integral approach based on ecology, society, and economy. This accreditation, granted by the Responsible Tourism Institute, endorses the winery’s ongoing efforts to integrate the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its daily activities.
Among its most notable initiatives, Sumarroca promotes the repopulation of native fauna on the Monistrol d’Anoia estate, installing beehives for native bees and restoring an old stone shepherd’s house to provide shelter for bats. The winery has also developed an R&D project in collaboration with VEA-Global, the Hydrogen Foundation, and the Innovi Cluster to implement hydrogen technology as an alternative to more polluting energy sources such as diesel. Furthermore, the installation of photovoltaic panels at the winery helped save 61.78 tons of CO₂ in 2023, equivalent to planting 85 trees.
In its constant pursuit of sustainable innovation, Sumarroca has incorporated Absolute Green Line capsules for its cavas, made from renewable materials. The winery also champions inclusive wine tourism by offering activities adapted for people with functional diversity. Thanks to the training of Sumarroca team members with partner organizations, the winery has installed ramps to provide access to vineyards, the shop, and services, as well as created a small-scale winery to offer a tactile experience for visually impaired visitors to learn about the winemaking process.
With the renewal of the Biosphere certification, Sumarroca reaffirms its commitment to continue exploring new ways to promote sustainability, engaging the entire community in the transition towards a more environmentally friendly and socially inclusive future.
