Sumarroca Takes Part in a Research Project to Manage Drought in Vineyards

Subirats, March 24, 2025 – At Sumarroca Winery, sustainability is not just a commitment; it is a constant action. That’s why we are proud to participate in the MANSO research project, an initiative led by INNOVI aimed at tackling one of the biggest challenges currently facing viticulture: drought.

With the collaboration of entities such as INCAVI, IRTA (Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology), and the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, this project focuses on soil and vineyard management to optimize water resource usage in the dryland vineyards of the Penedès region. The goal is to develop sustainable strategies that ensure the vineyard’s survival in an increasingly extreme climate.

Some of the key questions driving our research are: How can we make better use of rainwater? Which techniques help reduce evaporation in summer? What is the best way to manage small water reserves? These questions are addressed through on-the-ground measures and the use of innovative technologies, such as soil/plant sensors and remote sensing.

This project, co-funded by the European Union through the CAP Strategic Plan (PEPAC) 2023–2027, is another step forward in our commitment to responsible viticulture and respect for the environment.
