Nesting boxes
In Catalonia’s forests there are fewer and fewer old trees with natural cavities where birds can nest. This is due to the large number of forest fires in the 1990s and the resulting deforestation.
To make up for this, Sumarroca has installed nesting boxes made of reused wood on the estate to provide a protected space for endangered birds such as the Eurasian scops owl, the barn owl and insect-eating species.
This will also allow for a study of the species occupying the nests, and for the number of nests and the development of the young birds to be monitored.
