Voluntary Agreements
In 2016, Sumarroca joined the ACO2RDS VOLUNTARIS (Voluntary Agreements) programme to find out about the carbon footprint generated by its economic activity and to implement policies to reduce it.
The Voluntary Agreement Programme for the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, promoted by the Generalitat de Catalunya, was launched in 2010 by the Catalan Office for Climate Change. The programme offers tools, support and recognition to organisations that have facilities and/or operations in Catalonia and which want to voluntarily commit to reducing their GHG emissions.
Through an agreement, the member organisations commit to monitoring their GHG emissions and to implementing annual measures to reduce them.
As part of this agreement, Sumarroca has replaced conventional lighting with low-consumption lighting and installed new windows in some of its facilities to increase natural light. The winery uses the cold temperature in its tanks to maintain the yeasts and, as a result, has been able to disconnect the cooling chamber, it uses more efficient compressors, has reduced the weight of its wine bottles (from 560 to 460g) and cava bottles (from 900 to 835g) and has installed drinking fountains to eliminate plastic bottles, among other actions.
